Do You Know the True Meaning of Martial Arts? 

Hi there,

Welcome to our Hanna City martial arts school's website. It's great to have you!

In our class descriptions above we get in to the nitty-gritty of some various ways in which you can incorporate martial arts into your life. What do you think of when you hear the words “Martial Arts” though?

For most people it means self-defense or even a blanket term like “fighting”.

To us it’s so much more. I wanted to take a moment to tell you what martial arts means to us. While self-defense and fitness are important... martial arts gives you something else that, personally, I think is even more important.

Most people think martial arts is about learning to "fight" or "defend." But that’s only one aspect of it.

So what is the "true" meaning of martial arts?

Balance. Specifically, inner-balance. The connection of body, mind, and spirit, into one force.

These three parts of ourselves have gotten very separated. We spend most of our time stimulating our minds with computers, TV, media, and more. But while our minds going onto autopilot in front of electronic devices, our bodies are left out. The more we focus just on the mind, the less we focus on the body.

It’s not just adults that are suffering. Kids are less active than ever before! With video games, mobile devices, and more - the connection between mind and body has never been more off. Because of this, many of us feel "uncentered," including children. We can't focus as much as we're capable of. We can't achieve as much as we're capable of.

This is where martial arts comes in.

On the surface, when you’re training, it may seem like you're just having fun, getting a great workout, and learning challenging, exciting new techniques. But beneath that, we're also working on your connection to body, mind, and spirit. This actually helps you and your kids become stronger on the inside and outside.

Kids build strong characters, fast. They're able to focus better, pay attention for longer, have more balanced energy, and feel happier overall. Adults also improve focus, feel confident, and more vibrant. Things just overall get "better," and as a result, you and your children live a happier, more well-rounded, life. That's what martial arts is all about, and that's why we're so passionate about bringing this wonderful gift to our community.
